Details that Count — Muller Van Severen for HAY
As long-standing fans of Belgian design duo Muller Van Severen—we were happy to discover their glossy yet refined collaboration with Danish homemakers HAY. The design practice—founded by Belgian artist duo Fien Muller and Hannes Van Severen—evolved from a shared love of colour and materials. Their sculptural forms use architectural materials, creating pieces that blur distinctions between design and art. It makes sense then, that their designs for HAY function outside of their use, as beautiful objects on their own—no need to store away your vase once your flowers are gone.
Lacquered colours radiate the surface of the collection that includes lamps, candle holders and table sets—a subtle reflection of the home they inhabit. Industrial canteen-esq tables receive new context with a powder coated two-tone legs and an organic coloured Valchromat (a unique kind of robust MDF material that is FSC-certified and features a water-based lacquer). The legs and table surface relate to each other with an even thickness, available in a variety of combinations to suit different spaces and tastes.
