High Quality Good Price — Kitchen Jars by Okawa Glass

PHOTOGRAPHY BY JACOB LILLIS

Practical and personable kitchen jars manufactured in Sumida, Tokyo by family-run business Okawa Glass—specialists in exceptional glass bottle containers since 1916.

A small collection can be found on display and for sale at Japan House London. The airtight, wide-mouthed Tesage Jar design was originally created for a honey farm as a vessel for carrying fresh honey. “Tesage”, meaning “to tote” in Japanese, refers to the screw-on lid which doubles as a handle, making it easy for anyone to transfer your cereal to the breakfast table.

The Chikyū Glass Jar has been in production since the 1960s and takes inspiration from candy jars, making it ideal for storing sweet treats or smoothie toppers.

The Server Glass Jar might be our favourite object of all, its quick release mechanism is easily operated with your thumb and ends your desired pour with a satisfyingly clean cut. First released in 1978 as an improved version of the honey and maple syrup servers popular in the United States and Europe at that time. The nostalgic design is an elegant addition to an unruly breakfast spread or hardworking kitchen shelf.

Available at Japan House London, High Street Kensington.
