Patter Places — Hôtel Les Cabanettes
This family-run 1968 motel in the South of France, is a cinematic pit stop for road trip adventures.
The geometric forms and sleek lines of this roadside, mid-century building in Arles, France, have an almost Lynchian quality. Sympathetically restored, Hôtel Les Cabanettes is known for its friendly, personal service, original features, and postcard-worthy swimming pool. It makes an ideal stay for 2-3 nights for those looking for a relaxed atmosphere and good music.
Fuss-free and true to its modernist interior, the motel is well-priced and set just off the main road—10 minutes from Arles and 20 minutes from the Mediterranean. The restaurant, overlooking the pool, remains a popular spot for evening drinks and charcuterie. Each of the 29 minimalist rooms features a small private patio opening onto a communal terrace and gardens.
Designed between 1965 and 1967 by architect and artist Armand Pellier, the hotel has been authentically preserved. French-American couple Gaële and Aaron, former hospitality professionals in New York and France, fell in love with the property years ago. Rooms at Hôtel Les Cabanettes start at €135, including breakfast, and a car is highly recommended for reaching the hotel and exploring the wild, otherworldly landscapes of the Camargue.
