Get to Know — Everyone’s Mother
by Ellie Hay
A collection of softly sculpted pieces by artist Emma Larimer. Made with consideration for the earth, these are functional objects that explore the interconnection of art and traditional craft.
The crocheted wrap belts from Everyone’s Mother are particularly noteworthy. Decorated with sea shells from Rhode Island beaches and ceramic beads, each belt is woven by hand using a cotton and merino blend yarn from a small family owned farm in Nebraska. These are zero waste pieces that will – with care – last a lifetime, and get improve as they age.
Tops are adorned with hand stitched trompe-l’œl, upcycled from vintage t-shirts and sized to fit many. Patchwork antique lace pencil skirts are modernised with an elastic wait. The vintage fabric is sourced from Emma’s grandmother, and her partner’s grandmother, “and a few other grandmothers”.
Offering something so tender to customers you may never meet generates such poignancy. The modern shopping experience often lacks connection and can be so temporal; for Everyone’s Mother to create something so deeply personal and to be so open with it, feels pretty radical.
