Clean Living — Perfumer H and Studio Nicholson Introduce SOAP

by Ellie Hay
This new fragrance by Perfumer H and Studio Nicholson reveals the poetry found in the textures of everyday life. SOAP captures the familiar scent of clean, lived-in fabric against the skin. It is a fragrance with nothing to prove: comfortable, low-key, and expertly crafted from the purest ingredients.
A longstanding friendship between Nick Wakeman and Lyn Harris is the grounding of this special collaboration — two founders of independent British brands bound by a shared value system centred on quality, simplicity and craft. Studio Nicholson is a master of the seemingly simple, creating sophisticated clothes with real-life purpose and relaxed polish. Similarly, Perfumer H engages both our environment and emotions, with merticulously crafted fragrances shaped by a deep sensibility to the natural world.

For SOAP, Lyn and Nick spent a year formulating a precise blend of cardamom and white pepper, washed by soft aldehydes and orange flower, with a tender base of white musks, ambrox and tonka. SOAP eau de parfum is also available as an incense, made by one of the few traditional incense makers in Japan who supply the local Buddhist temples and monasteries.
The inspiration came from the smell of Italian Barbershops and of Harris’s grandmother, who used the same soap her entire life, “the way this fragrance lingers around your clothes is unbelievable. It develops as it evolves, both on fabric and on skin. It’s distinct but subtle, which is what I am always aiming for with our clothing,” says Wakeman. “Soap has a certain warmth and familiarity about it that we liked,” says Harris. “And it has a uniform feeling that, of course, both Nick and I appreciate.”
